Dr. Altman supervises naturopathic medicine student clinicians in Team Care and sees patients in private practice. She also supervises the community care site at Aegis Senior Living (scroll down to watch a related short video), and teaches classes at Bastyr University. Dr. Altman is also a core faculty at Bastyr University teaching didactic classes as well as supervising the delivery of clinical care by naturopathic medical students at the Bastyr Center for Natural Health and one of our community care sites, Aegis on Madison. A supervisor the Digestive Wellness services at the Bastyr Center for Natural Health. A private practice provider in the Practitioner Care department at Bastyr Center for Natural Health. She is also a provider at the Virginia Mason Integrative Medicine Center
Clinical Interests:
Dr. Altman's clinical interests include type 2 diabetes, digestive wellness, physical medicine, acupuncture and East Asian medicine.
Teaching/Research Interests:
Dr. Altman is very interested in optimizing the delivery of clinical education. She recently lead of team of of faculty and students through a year-long review and evaluation of the delivery of clinical training at all clinical training programs at Bastyr University. This project culminated in the formation of recommendations for optimization of all of our clinical training programs, which are currently being implemented.
Healing Philosophy:
Dr. Altman's medical philosophy involves empowering patients to achieve optimal health through education, support and guidance. Dr. Altman also believes that the health of the digestive system is significantly associated with many other disorders, and that healing the gut can help one achieve more optimal physical and emotional health.
Past Experience:
Dr. Altman has completed three years as a naturopathic medicine resident physician at Bastyr Center for Natural Health. Previously she worked as a teaching assistant and research assistant at Bastyr University and a graduate medical assistant coordinator at The Evergreen State College.
Education & Affiliations:
Dr. Altman earned her ND and her master's degree in acupuncture from Bastyr University and completed additional homeopathy training at New England School of Homeopathy. She earned and her bachelor of science in biology at Evergreen State College, where she also trained to become a medical assistant. She also became a Certified Nursing Assistant after training at William Rainey Harper College.
