Insurance and Billing

Bastyr Center for Natural Health is contracted with several insurance companies — Regence, Premera, Aetna, First Choice and Uniform. We also can accept Medicaid patients through the managed care programs Molina,Amerigroup, Coordinated Care and United Healthcare. Please note that it is the patient’s responsibility to verify specific coverage for complementary and alternative medicine.

As of September 2011, Bastyr Center accepts HSA, HRA, FSA and some MSA plan cards for payment on qualifying clinic services. Please see your employer or tax accountant for information on these plans.

Bastyr Center also offers a variety of special rates for patients without insurance or whose insurance excludes coverage of Bastyr Center services.

On March 1, 2000, the Every Category of Provider law went into effect in Washington, requiring all private insurance companies to provide a benefit for every category of health care provider. This includes naturopathic medicine, homeopathic medicine, physical medicine (such as soft-tissue manipulation), acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, nutrition consulting and counseling. The law does not dictate what the benefit must be (such as how many visits should be covered or who can deliver the care), but the result is that now several insurance companies will pay for alternative and complementary health care appointments. The law does not apply to insurance companies that are not privately funded, such as Medicare, Medicaid, Basic Health Plan and self-funded plans. Out-of-state medical plans are not necessarily required to follow this law. Please check with your plan to confirm coverage.

Each patient should check with Member Services at their insurance plan to understand their specific benefits. Patients without insurance or whose insurance excludes coverage of Bastyr Center services will be asked for payment at the time of their appointment. We accept cash, checks, debit cards, and Visa, Mastercard, American Express or Discover cards.

Please note: In some instances, your insurance will cover all services. In the event that services are not covered by your insurance, you are responsible for paying any and all charges.
